US Reveals How Diezani Alison-Madueke Lavished $144m On Furniture, Artworks, Others

The United States of America has revealed how embattled former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke , allegedly squandered about $144m, using part of the funds to purchase a yacht, landed properties, furniture and artworks.

According to a 91-page “verified complaint” filed by the US Government before the US District Court, Southern District of Texas, Houston Division, while she was in charge of the oil ministry, Diezani, lived a lavish and privileged lifestyle,” spending “more than one million dollars on furniture, artwork, and other furnishings purchased within the Southern District of Texas, and shipped, in part, to London and Abuja, Nigeria.”

They are hereby seeking an order to forfeit funds and assets worth $144m linked to Diezani.

The US, in the “verified complaint” signed by a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Elizabeth Crispino, said Diezani allegedly acquired the assets with kickbacks from “an international conspiracy to obtain lucrative business opportunities in the Nigerian oil and gas sector.”

The assets, the US stated, were acquired between April 2010 and May 2015 when Diezani was “overseeing Nigeria’s state-owned oil company, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.”

Among the properties, which the US now seeks to be forfeited, are a 65-metre motor yacht, named M/Y Galactica Star; two properties known as 807 and 815 Cima Del Mundo Road, Montecito, Calif; as well as funds in a couple of companies.

Crispino said Diezani’s assets were liable to being forfeited “under 18 U.S.C. § § 981(a)(1)(A) and 981(a)(1)(C),”.

Crispino stated that “Section 1956(a)(2) prohibits transferring funds known to be the proceeds of unlawful activity from a place outside the United States to a place in the United States, with knowledge that the transfer is designed in whole or in part to conceal the nature, location, source, ownership, or control of the proceeds of a specified unlawful activity, including the proceeds of an offense against a foreign nation involving ‘bribery of a public official, or the misappropriation, theft, or embezzlement of public funds by or for the benefit of a public official.”

Photos: Young Man Commits Suicide In Zambia After Telling Friends He Was Going To Take His Life But They Laughed It Off As A Bad Joke

A Zambian young man identified as Mpanjilwa Mulwanda hanged himself on July 24.  His death is currently trending on Zambia Social Media.

According to multiple Facebook sources,  during a chat with his friends on Friday, July 21, he made it known that he was going to take his life but they all laughed it off. Infact some even encouraged him to do it.

Read a post by a concerned Zambian, Simon Freeman, below..

"I never knew Mpanjilwa Mulwanda personally but after learning what transpired, seemed he mentioned taking his life to his friends who took it as a joke & probably never talked him out as much as they should have. I know how friendship is but anyway, one thing this has personally taught me is we should learn to encourage love amongst ourselves.
You never know what people are going through & just a few encouraging words from you could be what would stop someone from doing something unimaginable, we really need more wise & encouraging people for a better tomorrow . It's so unfortunate the brother is gone & nothing can be done about that but we can definitely avoid more incidents like this by loving one another more than expressing hate all in trying to seem like a star. R.I.P Mpanjilwa"

Another Zambian Facebook user, Joseph Kamfwa called on the police to arrest those friends who encouraged him to take his his life.

"ZAMBIA POLICE
Do people a favor- arrest and question all those kids who were pushing their friend to commit suicide. They are as guilty as someone charged with 2nd degree murder. It's high time Zambians learned limits to conversation"

Six African teens reported missing while visiting US for robotics competition

 Story highlights
The six teens from Burundi were reported last seen on Tuesday
The team's mentor "does not know where (they) could have went"

Washington (CNN)Police are searching for six teens who were visiting Washington for an international robotics competition and have been reported missing.
The teens represented Burundi, a small country in East Africa, in the inaugural FIRST Global robotics competition, competing alongside teams from more than 150 other countries.

The teens have been missing since Tuesday evening, when they were last reported seen at the location of the event -- DAR Constitution Hall on 18th St between C Street and D Street in Northwest DC -- the Metropolitan Police Department said.
"On the night of July 18, FIRST Global learned the adult mentor of Team Burundi was unable to find the group of six students of the team who participated in the 2017 FIRST Global Challenge," the competition's organizers said in a statement.
The mentor is identified in police reports as Canesius Bindaba. Bindaba stated that "he does not know where (they) could have went," the police reports said.
The DC police department tweeted names, ages, descriptions and photos of the six missing individuals. There are four missing boys and two missing girls, ranging in age from 16 to 18, according to the tweets.
The teens were reportedly last seen at 5:00 p.m. ET, police said. An itinerary of the event says that the robotics competition was scheduled to end at 5:30 p.m., and closing ceremonies were to run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
FIRST Global President Joe Sestak called the police to report the students as missing, according to the organization's statement, and "proper follow on reports have been submitted to the police who are investigating the case.
"Security of the students is of paramount importance to FIRST Global. FIRST Global ensures that all students get to their dormitories after the daily competition by providing safe transportation to the students staying at Trinity Washington University who are always to be under close supervision of their adult mentor and are advised not to leave the premises unaccompanied by the mentor."
Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities at 202-727-9099.
The competition attracted significant national attention after six girls on the Afghan team were denied visas for the competition, but later allowed to travel when President Donald Trump intervened. Ivanka Trump attended the event Tuesday, meeting with the Afghan girls.

I Didn’t Say FG Will Ban Production Of Music Videos Overseas – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has denied saying that the Federal Government will ban the overseas production of Nigerian movies and music.

Mohammed noted this on Tuesday evening while reacting to an outcry by artistes over reports saying he hinted at the ban when he visited the headquarters of the Copyright Society of Nigeria in Lagos.

During a briefing at the end of a two-day Creative Industry Financing Conference, with the theme ‘Financing the Film, Television and Music Industries,’ held at Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Mohammed said FG would not tamper with the aspirations and rights of the artistes and producers.

He said, “At COSON, I said that I would work to amend the National Broadcasting Commission’s code to ensure that if a product is designated a Nigerian product, it must be produced in Nigeria. I didn’t say that, henceforth, all music and films would or must be produced in Nigeria.

“All I said was that if a programme is designated as a Nigerian content programme, we will amend the code to ensure that it is produced in Nigeria. I didn’t say I’ll ban the production of Nigerian movies and videos overseas.”

“I Don’t Care About Chelsea” – Mourinho Reacts To Chelsea Signing Morata

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has reacted to Chelsea’s latest signing and he isn’t bothered about Chelsea’s swoop for Alvaro Morata.

The Real Madrid striker is in London today for a Chelsea medical.

Morata was all set to join United before they pulled out of the deal to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton.

Mourinho told a news conference;

“It frankly doesn’t interest me what Chelsea does,”

“We had a striker. Also when Zlatan Ibrahimovic was still fully fit, we needed someone to have more options. He and Marcus were not enough, especially after Zlatan got injured.

“Now we have a top European player.

“It was obvious that Chelsea would pick up a striker, especially in view of the situation between Antonio Conte and Diego Costa. Álvaro is a very good player for them.”

Photos: Australian Surgeons Replace Man's Thumb With His Toe After It Was Severed By A Bull

An Australian cattle worker whose thumb was severed by a bull has undergone a successful surgery by replacing it with his toe.

20-year-old Zac Mitchell was attacked back in April while working on a remote farming property in Western Australia.

Explaining the incident, the young cattle working said “a bull kicked my hand into the fence.' he told the BBC.

According to him, his fellow workers had attempted to preserve his thumb immediately after the accident before he was flown to a hospital in the state capital of Perth, but efforts to save his thumb ultimately failed.

“They put it in the esky [cooler] with some ice,” he said

Mitchell underwent two unsuccessful operations to reattach his thumb before doctors opted to relocate his big toe in the surgery lasting eight hours.

He agreed to the successful transplant operation at the Sydney Eye Hospital two weeks ago.

The lead plastic surgeon Dr. Sean Nicklin told BBC in a chat that he was not surprised it took time for Mirchell to accept.

“It is a bit of a crazy idea – the [patient] do not want to be injured in another part of their body,” he said. “[However] even if you have got four good fingers, if you do not have something to pinch against them, your hand has lost a huge amount of its function.”

According to him, he will need more than 12 months of rehabilitation before he returns to return to farm work.

The Sydney Eye Hospital said it was rare to transplant a complete toe, like in Mr. Mitchell’s case, although partial toe relocations were more common.

“A lot of people think their balance and walking is going to be significantly affected which it generally isn’t,” Dr. Nicklin said.

Mr. Mitchell’s mum, Karen, confirmed that his son is making a good recovery. “Two weeks since the operation his walking is almost back to normal.”

Be At Alert, 30 States Might Experience Heavy Flooding - Federal Govt

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Water Resources has sympathized with all Nigerians affected by the recent flood in Lagos and Niger state, blaming the flooding as a result of the delay in rainfall which caused the long duration of the torrential downpour.

The Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, delivered the government’s sympathy at a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja.

While revealing the cause of the heavy downpour, the minister also told journalists that about 30 states and over 100 local government areas, which had been categorized as high flood risk areas, could expect heavy flooding this year.

He said: “Summary of the alert is that approximately thirty (30) states and over one hundred (100) LGAs are categorised as high flood risk areas and therefore could expect flooding.

“The rains did not start early this year, thereby possibly causing long duration torrential downpour and causing unexpected urban/flash floods in areas with the non-existing or inadequate drainage system in the country.

“The flow of surface water is being monitored by NIHSA while alerts will continue to be issued. Also, sensitisation of the entire nation by visiting the grassroots will soon be embarked upon.

“Urban/flash floods (i.e overflow due to sustained rainfall) in the urban cities or semi-urban areas can be reduced with effective and adequate drainage systems. People must not use this facility as refuse bins which will block and render the facility useless with the probability of flooding heightened when it rains.

“People in the riverine areas must not erect residential structures on the flood plains as these areas are an extension of the river space. Unfortunately, people have refused to yield to advice.”

“It is therefore suggested that state and local governments should do more to enforce environmental laws/town planning guidelines, so as to check such uncontrolled physical development activities,” he added

The minister’s statement comes on the day Acting President Yemi Osinbajo approved the immediate release of N1.6 billion to 16 states already affected by the flood.

Senate Approves Law school And NYSC For Open University Graduates

The Senate on Thursday approved the participation of graduates of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme and the Law School.

The amendment followed consideration of report of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, chaired by Senator Jibrin Barau (APC, Kano) on the amendment of NOUN Act.

Barau said the amendment would address perception that the university is correspondence and seen as part time institution.

“These two concepts correspondence and part-time significantly affect the way the public views the programs run by the university.
“This has been the reason why law graduates of the school are not admitted into the Nigerian Law School, as well as the reason for the non inclusion of the graduates of the university into the NYSC,” he said.

Barau said the bill would allow those that pass out through the university to be included in the mandatory National Youth Service Corps scheme.

“The law graduates from this institution are not enrolled into the Nigerian Law School which is a set back to the graduates of law,” he said.

Barau further said that the amendment would allow for the inclusion of Information Communication Technology (ICT) as a means of giving out instructions and lectures.

“It will also allow for life-long learning. You can learn at every stage of your life,” he said.

Senate President Bukola Saraki said the amendment would go a long in enhancing the institution.

Ugandan pastor who sets thousands of Holy Bibles ablaze for misleading his members, has been sued

Recall in April, we reported the news of Pastor Aloysius Bugingo of House of Prayer Ministries in Uganda, who allegedly burnt thousands of holy bible in his claims that they were misleading his members.

Now a lawsuit has been filed against him in Nabweru court for violating Christian’s freedom of worship by burning several versions of the Holy Bible.

In the lawsuit, some pastors representing over 200 Christians are seeking a court declaration that Bugingo’s acts or omissions of burning and destroying the Holy Bibles are illegal and unlawful, as it injures their religious feelings.

The pastors also contend that Bugingo’s actions are an attack and insult to all Christians who believe in the Bible.

They want the court to issue a permanent injunction, restraining Bugingo and his servants from further burning and destroying Bibles of several versions and making utterances, speeches, sermons or statements concerning the Holy Bible in a way that attacks, violets or insults their faith or religion.

The pastors also want the court to award them damages at a rate of 25 percent from the date of judgment until payment is done and costs of the suit.

In the court document sighted by New Vision, it was stated that on April 4, 2016 (Easter Sunday), Bugingo collected or gathered several Holy Bibles of different versions, translations, and languages with the word Holy Ghost or missing scriptures and advised his flock or followers who are ‘not strong’  to burn or destroy it.

Nabweru court chief magistrate, Esther Nasambu who will preside over the case, has given Bugingo 15 days to file his defence on allegations of violating Christian’s freedom of worship by burning several versions of the Holy Bible.

Wizkid’s LASU Result Leaks, Shows He Had 44 Carry Overs, With A CGPA Of 0.91 (See Proof)

Alleged university result belonging to Nigerian starboy, Wizkid, has hit the internet.

According to viral reports online, the singer was said to have failed in a total of 44 courses during his first year in Lagos state University (LASU), Ojo.

It was the bad result that made him quit the state-owned university for Lead City university, a private university where he later finished from.

Wizkid who got admitted into LASU Ojo through UTME, to study Sociology in 2008, had a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 0.91, a terribly poor result.
