We know President Trump loves to tweet. But how do the people reading his tweets feel about them?
Polling firm
YouGov decided to find out, by conducting a daily poll asking a panel of
respondents representing the general public what they think of Trump’s
latest tweets. The firm has been doing this since Feb. 4, with ratings on more than 200 tweets, to date.
Respondents give each tweet one of five
ratings—great, good, OK, bad or terrible—corresponding to a number
ranging from 2 to -2. YouGov then takes the numerical average for each
tweet and multiplies by 100, creating a kind of index. Possible scores
range from 200 for a tweet everybody thinks is great to -200 for a tweet
uniformly viewed as terrible. So far, the best rating for a Trump tweet
is 56, while the worst is -81.The tweet-raters seem to be more conflict-averse than Trump. Tweets rated highest tend to be milquetoasty mentions of meetings with dignitaries or others guests. Tweets critical of rivals tend to be poorly rated, as do Trump’s many complaints about “fake news.” Democrats, not surprisingly, rated virtually all of Trump’s tweets lower than Republicans did.
